Sales Development Representative - Cold Calling/Phone-Based Sales (Government Sales)

Are you energized by picking up the phone and starting conversations? Are you looking to join an incredible team where your work directly drives growth and where persistence is recognized and rewarded?

Reality Check (Please Read Before Applying)

This is not an inbound, email-based, or relationship-only sales role. This job requires several hours per day on the phone making outbound cold calls.

You will hear rejection daily. You will leave voicemails constantly. You will be successful only if you are disciplined, persistent, and comfortable dialing the phone every day.

If you enjoy high-volume outbound calling, clear targets, and earning based on activity and results, keep reading. If you’re looking for warm leads or minimal phone time, this role is not a fit.

Open Doors for Government Agencies Nationwide

Municibid is looking for an Outbound Sales Development Representative to join our sales team. Your primary mission: identify, contact, and qualify government agencies that would benefit from Municibid, and schedule demos with our sales team.

Founded in 2006 and recognized as a four-time Inc. 5000 company, Municibid is a leading online auction marketplace that helps government agencies and schools turn surplus into budget. In our 20 years, we have grown to serve over 7,000 government clients, and we're ready to grow faster.

This role is the engine behind that growth.

Your Mission

Identify, contact, and qualify government agencies that are not yet using Municibid, and set qualified demos for our Sales Team.

You will spend the majority of your day prospecting and cold calling decision-makers in local governments and public agencies.

What You’ll Do (Daily)

  • Make 50 to 80 outbound calls per day to government agencies
  • Cold call procurement directors, town managers, and leaders in public works, police, fire, and other departments
  • Handle rejection professionally and continue dialing
  • Qualify prospects by confirming decision-making authority, identifying surplus assets, and establishing next steps
  • Book qualified demos that actually take place
  • Call prospects quickly when buying signals appear (email opens, website visits, pricing views)
  • Log all activity accurately in the CRM

How You’ll Be Measured

This role is activity- and results-driven. Success is measured by:

  • Calls made
  • Qualified conversations held
  • Demos scheduled and completed
  • Conversion quality of the opportunities you generate

Consistent effort = consistent results.

What We’re Looking For

  • Proven comfort with outbound cold calling or telemarketing (sales, fundraising, recruiting, etc.)
  • Willingness to spend several hours per day actively dialing
  • Persistence — you understand that “not right now” is part of the job
  • Clear, confident phone communication
  • Strong organization and follow-through
  • Coachability and desire to improve

Requirements

  • Ability to work independently in a remote environment
  • Availability during standard business hours (Eastern or Central preferred)
  • Quiet, professional workspace for phone calls
  • Reliable internet and phone setup (reimbursed by company)
  • Alignment with Municibid’s values of integrity, service, and accountability

Compensation

  • Base Salary: $45,000–$50,000
  • Variable Compensation: $15,000+ based on performance

Bonuses are tied to metrics you control:

  • $50 per completed demo
  • $500 monthly bonus for hitting qualified conversation targets
  • Quarterly bonuses for high-quality conversions

On-Target Earnings: $60,000–$65,000+

Benefits

  • Excellent healthcare coverage
  • Flexible PTO
  • Fully remote work
  • Internet reimbursement and required tools
  • Growth opportunities as the sales team expands
  • Team retreats to connect in person

Ready to Apply?

Apply if you are comfortable with cold calling, motivated by clear targets, and ready to make a high volume of outbound calls every day. Include a brief note about your outbound or phone-based experience.

If you don’t enjoy dialing the phone, this role will not be a fit — and that’s okay. We want the right person in the right seat.
